Filmmakers are the myth-makers of modern society, tasked to recreate and thereby influence our culture’s perception of the world around us. Yet this mission fails when the world on screen does not reflect the world we see as we walk down the street. Despite constant talk of progress, representation in front of and behind the camera is in a dire state. Filmmakers of all marginalized genders lack the level of institutional support, mentorship, and job opportunities afforded to their cis white male counterparts within both the independent film and studio systems. Authentic authorship is imperative to true representation, and dismantling the elitist structures in Hollywood demands investment in artists who are directly impacted by systems of oppression.
Film Fatales actively fights to change the narrative of who gets to share their stories with the world, providing platforms for marginalized voices to step into their power and actualize shifts in culture. We understand the importance of marginalized voice authentically representing their communities on screen. Our mission help underrepresented filmmakers advance their careers, provide Hollywood gatekeepers a path to inclusive programming, and spark public conversation about the importance of equity.
We need gender nonconforming storytellers behind
the camera to ensure the authenticity of stories being told.
