Cathy Yan is a filmmaker born in China and based in New York. She received a dual MFA and MBA at NYU and a BA at Princeton. Her comedic series According to My Mother participated in the Sundance New Voices Lab, won Best Drama Pilot at the New York Television Festival among other awards and is in development. Her feature film debut DEAD PIGS premiered at Sundance 2018 in the World Cinema Dramatic competition and won the Special Jury Prize for ensemble acting. Previously, she was a reporter for the Wall Street Journal and was one of the youngest in the paper’s history to pen multiple front-page stories. Producing credits include the feature documentary SKY LADDER: THE ART OF CAI GUOQIANG (director: Academy award winner Kevin Macdonald, premiere: Sundance Film Festival 2016), various shorts, a web-series and content for brands such as Armani, Subway, Spotify and The Innocence Project. Previously, she was a reporter for the Wall Street Journal in New York, Hong Kong and Beijing. She was one of the youngest writers in the paper’s history to pen multiple front-page stories. Cathy graduated from Princeton University, magna cum laude, with a bachelor’s degree in the Woodrow Wilson School of International and Public Affairs
