Maureen Gosling, a filmmaker for more than forty years, has worked as a director, producer, editor, sound recordist and distributor. Gosling was Producer/Director and Editor, along with Chris Simon, on THIS AIN’T NO MOUSE MUSIC, on the life and legacy of American roots music record producer, Chris Strachwitz. The feature doc premiered at SXSW and won Top Audience Awards at Hot Docs and the Mill Valley Film Festival. Gosling directed, produced and edited BLOSSOMS OF FIRE 2000, (HBO Latino, Spanish TVE, Swedish Television) a feature-length tribute to the Isthmus Zapotecs of southern Oaxaca, Mexico. Gosling is best known for her twenty-year collaboration with the late San Francisco Bay Area director Les Blank on more than two-dozen documentaries, as co-filmmaker, editor and/or sound recordist. Their best-known film is the British Academy Award winning classic documentary, BURDEN OF DREAMS, on German director Werner Herzog’s perilous filming of his feature FITZCARRALDO in the Peruvian Amazon. Gosling is well known as an Editor, for Blank, as well as for such directors as Mo Morris (A NEW COLOR 2016), Christopher Beaver (RACING TO ZERO 2014), Luke Griswold-Tergis and Cory Mann (SMOKIN’ FISH), and others. Gosling co-wrote and edited Jed Riffe’s CALIFORNIA’S “LOST” TRIBES, part 1 of the four-hour PBS series, CALIFORNIA AND THE AMERICAN DREAM. In June of 2011, the Museum of Modern Art in New York honored Les Blank, along with Gosling, in a two-week retrospective of their films.
