Iranian American director Suzi Yoonessi’s award-winning feature film Dear Lemon Lima (2009) premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival. The film was released domestically by Phase 4 Films and internationally by HBO and The Sundance Channel. Shorts International and Vanguard Cinema distribute Yoonessi’s short films Dear Lemon Lima (2006) and No Shoulder (2005), starring academy-award winner Melissa Leo. Yoonessi received a Jerome Foundation Grant for Dear Lemon Lima and her documentary film Vern (2003), which now resides in the SF Museum of Modern Art and is distributed by the National Film Network. Yoonessi’s viral video series Olive and Mocha (2012-2015) is Funny or Die’s 1st Annual Make Em’ LAFF award winner, and was the #1 video on Reddit for a week. Yoonessi currently directs episodic and branded, short and commercial spots for Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, Funny or Die, Portal A, Retrofit, Super Deluxe, YouTube Red and Condé Nast, and is in post-production on features Unlovable and Daphne and Velma. Yoonessi received her BFA from the SF Art Institute, and her MFA from Columbia University where she was a recipient of the FMI Directing Fellowship.
