Coming from a family of psychologists with a strong commitment to social development, Barbora's documentary work focuses on various social trauma. Her latest work analyzes the impact of political events on the lives of individuals in post-communist societies through an innovative filmic vision.
Barbora’s work contextualizes contemporary social challenges through film, site-specific interventions, music videos and video installation.
She stands behind the documentary films and trans-media project Ask at home 68/89 (2018/2019), encouraging the inter-generational dialogue about political event's impact on family lives in CZECHOSLOVAKIA over the 20th century to address topics such as identity, trauma and memory within society.
Her feature documentary debut, a creative documentary investigating experience of individuals involved in political crimes of the early post-socialist era in Slovakia called Never Happened premiered at Warsaw International Film Festival in 2019.
Bereznakova is an alumni of Berlinale Talents 2021, IDFAcademy 2018, and has participated in film development and script-writing programs such as ExOriente 2017, DOC.incubator 2016, MIDpoint (winning best script award in 2014), as well as various artist residency programs.
Barbora currently resides in NYC where she works freelance on her artistic and commercial projects.
