Melanie La Rosa

I am in distribution on "How To Power A City" and maintaining an active campaign of live screenings, educational distribution, and PBS airings starting in May 2025. I have also been invited to present this unique film at national conferences and to speak about my work by McGill University (Montreal), the American Public Health Association 2024 annual conference, CleanMed '24, the Virtual Island Summit '24, Hofstra University, and many other events.

Also in May 2025, I will publish my second book, "Contemporary Post Production: Create, Cut, Collaborate, Color, Deliver," with Routledge/Taylor&Francis, one of the largest academic publishers and the world's leader in classroom texts for filmmaking. This book combines technical guidance with a look at four contemporary filmmakers and two important historical filmmakers. It weaves together interviews sharing how contemporary filmmakers navigated their films and careers, as well as short historical sections illustrating how editing has changed, and also how its principles have remained the same since the early days of filmmaking.

I am an Associate Professor of filmmaking at Pace University, I regularly present at conferences, stay current with new developments, and build project collaborations. Collaborative projects include multimedia pieces made with the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian, Teatown Lake Preserve, Parenting, Prisons, and Pups, as well as several other Westchester County community groups.

Conference presentations in 2025 include a workshop on climate storytelling for the International Environmental Communication Association and a workship on using Solutions Journalism in documentary at the University Film and Video Association national conference. Collaborations for 2025 include a role as Consulting Producer with "In My Backyard," a documentary series produced by The Nature Conservancy.
