Karina Garcia Casanova

Karina Garcia Casanova is a Mexican born filmmaker based in Montreal, Canada. In 2014, she directed her first feature documentary JUANICAS co- produced with Eyesteelfilm. The film was released theatrically in Canada and Mexico and has received numerous prizes in festivals worldwide (Best documentary, Cinelatino Toulouse; Special mention, Guadalajara Film Festival; Special jury prize, Atlanta Film Festival; Special mentions, RIDM, Montreal; Cinema Tropical Awards nomination, NYC; etc.) At the rough-cut stage, Juanicas won the DOCULAB, a competitive rough cut lab of the Guadalajara Film Festival in Los Angeles. Her award winning short films (The Great Thinkers, Disown Delete, and How to get a 10 foot Virgin through an 8 foot Gate) have been broadcast and shown in numerous films festivals and institutions (Clermont- Ferrand, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Sapporo Short Film Festival, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, CBC TV, TV5, etc.). She is currently doing freelance editing work and writing her first fiction film.
