Margaret Sclafani
Over her eighteen year career in the film industry, Margaret has created her own work including the short documentary “Water Walker” on indigenous water protectors (premiere Galway Film Fleadh), received a grant from the Russo Brothers to make another short documentary, “Saints of Little Italy” (premiere NYWIFT Women Filmmakers: Immigrant Stories Series) and co-directed narrative short, “We Are Here” (Best Drama nomination at Revolution Me Film Festival).
She co-directed and was the director of photography, lead actor and producer of the feature film, “Greetings From Arizona” (Grand Jury Prize Winner, Lonely Seal Film and Music Festival).
She regularly works as a cinematographer and camera operator. She is the director of photography on feature documentary, “Without Fear or Favor” about anti-fascist journalist Dorothy Thompson. She was technical director and cinematographer working within the Orthodox Jewish women’s community on “The Gift” (narrative feature). She was the director of photography at MTV News from 2019-2021. She has also lensed the short films: “Square Breathing,” “Inconclusive,” “Bar Therapy,” “Zantha and Fred,” and “The Board” in addition to web series: “The Third Act” and “Everything’s Coming Up Ro’ses” She has provided 2nd Unit work as a director of photography on the upcoming feature film, “Regulars,” the short film, “The Ferry” (Galway Film Fleadh Selection) and web series “Cady Did” (Best Comedy Series, Indie Series Awards).
Margaret Sclafani studied film at Bryn Mawr College along with her degree in anthropology, completing her thesis work in Nairobi, Kenya and studying abroad in Galway, Ireland and Avignon, France. She grew up with a visual art, dance and theater background. Margaret welcomes more opportunities to direct and produce whilst bringing her extensive technical knowledge and leadership experience at every stage of production to future collaborations.
