Veronica McKenzie

Veronica McKenzie began her career in entertainment as a writer primarily of stand-up comedy material and comic sketches for TV and radio. Commissions include ‘BLOUSE ‘N’ SKIRT (BBC 2) 1998 and 'THE 11 O/C CLOCK SHOW' Channel 4 1999, with Ricky Gervais, along with material for her Edinburgh show in 1997. She moved into drama with stints as a Story-liner for TV ‘CORONATION STREET’ 2005 and dramaturg with ‘A WOMAN ON FIRE,’ her stage play about Nina Simone at the Hackney Empire theatre. Veronica moved to LA to complete the Producers Certificate at UCLA in 2008. She was shortlisted for the 2009 Disney ABC Writing Fellowship Program, and her script NINE NIGHTS was a quarter finalist for the Nicholls Fellowship (2010). She has been a script analyst for clients including Granada TV, Gold Circle Films, Essential Entertainment and Shoreline Entertainment. Veronica set up Reel Brit Productions in 2010, and co-produced shorts 'THE LAST SUPPER' (2011), and ITSY (2017). She moved into directing with her feature documentary 'UNDER YOUR NOSE' (2016) about UK black LGBTQ+ history, which screened at the V&A, Tate Modern and universities in the UK and Holland. Short doc MONICA LOOSE ON A CRUISE is screening at BFI Flare 2019. More recently Veronica produced and directed her narrative debut feature 'NINE NIGHTS' which won the Pan African Film Festival Narrative Feature Director Award 2019.
