Film Fatales

How do I join?

Film Fatales membership is available to women who have previously directed or co-directed at least one feature-length narrative film, broadcast-length documentary or scripted television episode which has been distributed. Official members should:

1) Identify as a woman film director, including:

  • cisgender, transgender, gender non-conforming directors
  • any nationality, ethnicity, age, ability, orientation

2) Who has directed or co-directed at least one feature film, documentary or scripted TV episode, including:

  • Feature length narrative films (over 70 minutes)
  • Broadcast length documentaries or miniseries (over 45 minutes)
  • Scripted network or cable television episode (30 minutes or over)

3) Which has been distributed on any of the following platforms:

  • Theatrical release (week-long run in a city with over 1 million population)
  • Day and Date release (week-long run in at least ten major cities)
  • Broadcast television release (cable or network television)
  • Digital Platform release by a major cable/satellite television provider
  • VOD or SVOD release (Netflix, Fandor, iTunes, Hulu, etc)
  • Verifiable wide commercial DVD or Blu-ray release
  • Official selection in major film festivals (contact us to inquire if your film has played a qualified festival)

If you meet these membership qualifications, please fill out the form below.

You will receive an email with a link to pay membership dues as soon as your application has been approved. Dues for members in New York City are $120 per year and $60 per year for members outside of New York.

What are some of the benefits available to members?

1. Invitations to monthly meetings of the nearest Film Fatales chapter, as space allows.

2. Invitations to Film Fatales events such as our annual party at Sundance, film festival panels, master classes, industry mixers, holiday parties and more.

3. An individual profile page on the Film Fatales website, which has become an industry source for finding and hiring female directors.

4. Access to the private Film Fatales Facebook Group as well as local chapter Facebook groups, where you can post news about your projects and receive invitations to events. Additionally, the Film Fatales media team will follow your personal profiles on our social media accounts.

5. Inclusion in the Film Fatales programming database. The programming team reaches out to film festivals worldwide to help to program films directed by our members.

6. Recommendations for grants and industry opportunities, such as the Sundance Labs, IFP No Borders, Tribeca All Access, and production companies looking to hire women directors.

7. Inclusion on the Film Fatales partner pages on Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, and Seed & Spark with added promotion and discounted fees.

8. Eligibility for group discounts that have been arranged for Film Fatales such as discounted production equipment, distribution platforms, web hosting and post-production services.

9. Access to our shared crew database where we post crew recommendations.
