Alix Blair is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, cinematographer, documentary teacher and radio producer. She has spent the last five years making her first feature-length documentary film Farmer/Veteran, which won Best Documentary Feature at the Brooklyn Film Festival, Best Documentary Feature at the Charlotte Film Festival, Best Southern Film at the Macon Film Festival, Best Stories of the South Award at the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and will air with ITVS on Independent Lens in May 2017. Alix worked several years as a documentary stories teacher and assistant at the Center for Documentary Studies in Durham, North Carolina. Her radio stories have aired on NPR’s Marketplace, Hearing Voices, Re:Sound, Here & Now, and The Story. Alix received a Masters from the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University in Human Rights and the Environment. Alix is also a researcher in the adverse health effects of traumatic experiences and yoga teacher trained in yoga for trauma therapy. She works weekly in the San Jose Juvenile Justice Center and the San Francisco County Juvenile Detention Center teaching yoga and mindfulness to incarcerated teenage girls.
