Brishkay Ahmed

As an Afghan-Canadian filmmaker and emerging playwright, I began my career by writing and directing episodic dramas for Tolo TV and Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA) in Afghanistan. I used the opportunity to write evolved female characters and insert story elements that would entertain and educate Afghan women about their legal rights.  Committed to stories that arise from world events, I’m most recognized as a documentary film director in Canada. My feature documentary, In The Rumbling Belly of Motherland, was nominated for a 2021 DGC award and won Outstanding Feature at the 2021 Reelworld Film Festival. And, my speculative doc short - Aryana Resurrected - played at festivals across the globe through Cinema Politica’s Next 150 initiative. I’m currently in production on the experimental Feature documentary In The Room with the National Film Board of Canada.
