Julia Maryanska
Julia Maryanska is a Polish-American filmmaker and photographer known for blending visual poetry with raw, personal reflection. With a background in International Affairs and Fine Art from Skidmore College, alongside extensive training in group facilitation and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Julia’s work explores themes of world issues, relational intimacy and community. Her experience spans editing, directing, and producing, including roles on award-winning films like My Reincarnation and Regarding Susan Sontag. She co-directed, filmed and produced The Village of Lovers, a celebrated documentary currently on the festival circuit. Julia was selected as one of 10 international women for the prestigious 2023 CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator where she developed her latest project, Intimate Revolutions, a deeply personal exploration of womanhood and motherhood which has received mentorship, early financial support and industry exposure at events like Berlinale and When East Meets West. Julia is in the research phase of a new feature documentary about the effects of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on intimate relationships, following two men in an unlikely friendship navigating cultural differences and a shared mission for peace. She is a co-founder of ReCulture Media which has been producing films and storytelling events at the intersection of cultural regeneration, myth and community building. She currently lives in Northern California with her young daughter, partner and community on the unceded lands of the Coastal Miwok and Southern Pomo peoples.
