Neha Shastry is an Indian-Muslim-American Director and Producer based in New York. She makes films that explore the intersection of power imbalances, perception and transformation. Her work has garnered an Emmy, a Dupont, and a Peabody.
She started her career at Vice News, and just a few months into the job found herself producing their critically acclaimed coverage about Russia's annexation of Crimea and the subsequent war in Eastern Ukraine. Since then, she has produced and directed films across five continents for National Geographic, CNN, Amazon Studios and Netflix.
Neha produced All In: The Fight for Democracy, a film about the history and legacy of voter suppression in the U.S, through the lens of Stacey Abrams’ work. The film was shortlisted for an Academy Award, and was awarded best documentary by The Hollywood Critics Association, The AAFCA and The Alliance of Women Film Journalists.
She made her directorial debut with the series The Murdochs: Empire of Influence for CNN in partnership with The New York Times, which will air this Fall. Next, she partnered with Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions to direct an upcoming series for EPIX about corruption amongst America’s wealthiest people.
In 2021, Neha was chosen to participate in Netflix’s inaugural Nonfiction Director Fellowship, which is an incubator for up and coming directors of color. Through the fellowship, she partnered once again with Liz Garbus to produce an upcoming unannounced series.
