Eclectic and original,Tapiwa Chipfupa loves to push boundaries experimenting creatively to produce one of a kind thought provoking work.Motivated by the need to present new and highly interpretive views of Africa,she focuses on stories that are intimate,personal and character driven with unique and surprising contexts,perspectives and flair.She has worked on various projects in Southern Africa since 2000.She left Zimbabwe for South Africa in 2006 to study,graduating Cum Laude from AFDA(2008)on a Leadership Development Scholarship.Awarded the principal’s list award and a Nelson Mandela Rhodes Scholarship Nominee,her undergraduate films were acquired by SABC and MNET,screened and won awards at various festivals worldwide.She completed her Honours(2009) and Masters with Distinction(2015) receiving the Dean’s List Award.Her films have broadcast on platforms such as SABC,MNET,YLE,Al Jazeera,TV Rennes 35 France and screened at Tampere,Dok Liepzig,New York Film Festival,Docpoint among others.While studying,she worked on both local and international productions.In 2012,Tapiwa stopped working as a freelancer to focus on directing,writing and producing as an independent filmmaker. She is now based in Zimbabwe. Tapiwa is a Chicken&Egg Diversity Fellow(2017),IDFAcademy(2016),Hot Docs Blue Ice(2016),Cinema Du Monde(2016),Berlinale Talents(2015) and Durban Talents 2013)alumna winner of AfricaDocs Top Ten Pitches(2010) and Sundance Institute Spotlight Award(2015)amongst others.
