Obsessed with getting her son a transplant heart, Maggie, a cynical former Army Ranger and single mother, rallies her team of skilled veterans and goes rogue in the organ procurement business, becoming a robin-hood of sorts for those in need of organs. Her path crosses with Reid, another vet trying to put his life back together after jail and PTSD. Reid works for the organ cartel that Maggie has sworn to destroy, but the two become unlikely partners in their quest to save their families. Season One takes us through their dance, tackling the adventures and obstacles to procuring and delivering organs without getting caught. They help each other in their goals while treading the tense line of mutual interests. It’s not clear whether they can trust each other. Along the way, they face tough choices about how far they are willing to go to get what they want. The PILOT sets up the world, the relationship between Maggie and her son, and the team that Maggies has assembled. We see how they operate to procure organs and how tough it is. We also follow Reid as he repairs his relationship with his daughter and struggles to pay his debts. Maggie and Reid's s paths cross as they fight over the transplant heart they both need to save their respective children.
Jen Schwerin is an award-winning filmmaker working in the USA and China. Her short film, Unspoken Code (2018), won Best Short Film at the Toronto Female Eye Film Festival, Best Drama at the Beijing Indie Short Film Festival, and Best Narrative at the California International Shorts Festival and screened at many festivals in the USA and around the globe. In China for 24 + years, she created the first MTV content from China and founded her production company, Tadaa! Media, in Beijing. She wrote in the writers' room of a Chinese web series sitcom, co-wrote a Chinese comedy series, and directed works in Mandarin and English. Throughout her time she has directed award-winning shorts and written and developed several Mandarin and English language feature film projects. Her adventurous life has certainly shaped her worldview. From walking solo across Tibet, negotiating complex situations in local and expat cultures, raising 3 kids in China, witnessing revolution and repression, and escaping danger, Jen has forged a nuanced geo-political, multi-cultural, and distinctly personal perspective that informs her work. Her characters, like herself, ask the question "who's doing the coding?" and push to create new codes, whether cultural, political or personal. Jen relocated to the US in 2019 where she has has been writing pilots and features.
