Synopsis

NIGHT AND FOG IN KURDISTAN tells the story of seven teenage girls who fled the ISIS genocide of Yazidis in 2014. In quest for documenting the traces of a genocide and the plight of surviving, the director, connected to the characters via her own Kurdish background and traumas of a childhood spent in war, follows them for five years, through their years of residence in refugee camps in Turkey, as well as their later relocations to European countries.

Bio

Shilan Saadi is a Kurdish filmmaker and documentarian based in Canada. Her work focuses on historical memory, women’s stories, and social justice, highlighting underrepresented voices. Her films have screened internationally and are recognized for their human-centered and truthful storytelling.
