Hurricane Seasons

HURRICANE SEASONS tells the story of a family that comes together to confront a loss, in the backdrop of Puerto Rico’s 2019, post-hurricane Maria protests and is a heartfelt and comedic homage to the people and places that come to my mind for anyone who splits their love between New York and “the Island”.

Synopsis

Five years after her father’s suicide in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, Brooklyn artist Glori Camacho returns to Puerto Rico when her terminally ill mother, Angela, refuses life-saving dialysis.

Angela’s eldest daughter Esperanza, who has been caring for her with the help of her daughter Issa, desperately tries to convince her to continue treatment. When even a plea to their estranged brother Tito fails, Esperanza reluctantly turns to Glori, the sister she has long resented for being seen as the family’s savior. Glori arrives with her daughter Odie, a recently sober college dropout, hoping together they can change Angela’s mind.

But Angela refuses to reconsider. Instead, she persuades the family to take her on a round-the-island bucket-list road trip. Against Esperanza’s wishes, the family sets out on what begins as a reluctant journey that quickly reveals a deeper purpose as long-buried family secrets and unresolved wounds come to light.
