Bread & Roses offers a powerful window into the seismic impact that the fall of Kabul to the Taliban in 2021 had on women’s rights and livelihoods. The film follows three women in real time as they fight to recover their autonomy. Sahra Mani captures the spirit and resilience of Afghan women through a raw depiction of their harrowing plight.

Sahra Mani is an Emmy Nominee, Peabody Award Winner, and Cinema Eye Award Nominee, renowned for her fearless storytelling and dedication to human rights, equality, and justice in Afghanistan.


She holds a bachelor’s degree in film and a master’s degree in documentary filmmaking from the University of the Arts London, graduating with high distinction. Her films amplify the voices of women and marginalized communities, using the power of cinema to promote understanding and drive social change.


As a lecturer at Kabul University, Sahra organized several landmark film festivals in Afghanistan, including the Afghanistan Human Rights Film Festival..


In 2024, Sahra joined forces with Jennifer Lawrence and Malala Yousafzai in a high-profile global campaign advocating for girls’ education and women’s rights in Afghanistan.


She has served as a juror for several prestigious festivals and competitions, including:
