Marieka Walsh is a Director, Screenwriter and Animator. She has received five Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTA) nominations as well as two Australian Director's Guild (ADG) nominations. Her short film THE HUNTER, (SXSW, Palm Springs, Sydney International Film Festival) won several international awards as well as an AACTA for Best Short Animation. She went on to direct/ animate THE CROSSING (winner Dendy SFF) followed by the opening film for the anthology feature THE TURNING (Berlinale, MIFF). She has created animation for three feature length documentaries; THAT SUGAR FILM (sugar animation), FIRESTARTER (Graphic treatment, titles, animated text, SFX, graphics) and AFTER THE APOLOGY (on which she co-directed four animated stories). Marieka studied Visual Art and holds a Hons degree (SCA – USYD). She enjoys collaborating on projects with meaning, intention and humanity (the broken kind included).
