Nara Normande (1986) is a lesbian filmmaker from the northeast of Brazil. She co-directed with Tião the short film Sem Coração, which won the Illy Award at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 2014. In 2018, her animated short Guaxuma, co-produced with France, mixes several animation techniques connected to sand and was selected to Annecy and TIFF’s competition, winning several awards including Best Animation at SXSW, Palm Springs, Hamptons and New Orleans Film Festival. She premièred her first feature film, Heartless, co-directed by Tião, in the Orizzonti Competition of Venice Film Festival in 2023. The film won the jury prize at Festival d’Amiens, the Coral prize at Havana Film Festival and best photography and the best LGBTQIA + film at Festival do Rio.
