Paola Calvo is a Venezuelan Director and Cinematographer. Paola graduated in Audiovisual Communication at the Universidad Complutense Madrid in 2005. Her interests in the image as a powerful way of storytelling, brought her to study photography and film editing. In 2006 she began studying cinematography at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin (dffb). In 2012 she directed ""A Tale of two Islands"", a two channel video installation which was shown at Berlinale Forum Expanded. Wanting to represent sexuality in a poetic way, she made “Violently Happy"" the culmination of her studies at the Film Academy, a 92 Minutes Documentary, theatrically shown in Germany, and financially supported by Berlin Film Fonds. Paola directed, photographed and co-produced the film. Among others, Paola won the Best Cinematography Award at the FFF 2018 for „Violently Happy“. For her debut „Luchadoras“ Paola worked together with Patrick Jasim. „Luchadoras“ a film abut female fighters in Ciudad Juarez, México, celebratied World Premiere at SXSW 2021. The Film won the Jury Special Mention for Best Documentary, FIRESCI Award and Audience Award at TDF21.
