S.E. King was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Texas. They studied Radio-TV-Film in college with an emphasis on writing and producing before moving to Chicago to learn and perform improv, sketch, and stand-up, winning critical acclaim from Time Out, Chicago Sun-Times, and The Andy Kaufman Awards for their unabashed writing and performance style. A huge admirer of quirky, heartfelt, character-driven docs—when their old neighbor came out as trans in 2017—King decided to make their own. In 2020, they officially formed their production company, Melba Productions, with their partner, Leah Judge, recently completing their first documentary feature, the multiple award-winning: Our dad, Danielle. Melba Productions looks to develop inclusive narratives, docs, tv, and music videos with a focus on LGBTQ+, women & nonbinary, and other marginalized populations.
